Below are some hints and tips for choosing a new password. We hope they are useful.
- Try to use mixed case passwords. Most password fields on websites and in applications are case-sensitve. Using different cases with make your password much more secure
- Try to use numbers as well as this vastly increases the secure factor of the password. A lot of people find substituting 'i' for 1, 's' for 5 etc. is helpful, however rememeber that most hackers know this trick.
- Use a minimum of 5 charactors, but ideally between 8 and 10.
- Avoid using your name, or names of friends, family or loved ones. The same goes for sports teams, cars and other common objects.
- Avoid using words (objects, brands, colours) that are visible from your desk.
- Some hackers use dictionary attacks, whereby they try every word in a dictionary of words. If you use a common word, insert random symbols and numbers where possible.
- Never make your password from the username
